Condition: The camera and the lens have been restored and serviced to a very high standard.

Body

  • In very good overall condition.
  • There is some discreet paint loss, mainly around the focussing hood.
  • All other metal parts are present and shiny.
  • The focusing track shows an aging yellowish colour, characteristic of these early models (this is not dirt).
  • The original synthetic covering is in very good condition.

Camera movements:

  • All movements are working smoothly as they should.
  • Please notethe screw that allows to adjust the tension of the swing front snapped in the past. But the tension is correct and the swinging movement can be operated freely.

Bellow :

In great condition with no apparent external or internal flaws. The camera has been fully tested with films and is guaranteed to be light proof.

Lens and shutter:

  • The synchro compur shutter has received a light service (disassembly, cleaning, lubrication).
  • All speeds sound correct.
  • The synchro Flash connector has been tested and works fine.
  • The self-timer is correct.
  • The lens has been disassembled and cleaned, it is free from fungi.
  • There is a light haze at the rear element.
  • The front lens is very good without any cleaning marks.

Range finder:

  • Bright and clean.
  • Adjusted vertically and horizontaly.

Please note:

  • the range finder is operated by mean of a cam sitting on the focusing rack. The cam plate can only be used with the lens for which it has been calibrated. On this particular model the serial number of the 135mm lens has been engraved onto the cam plate. Number 106392.
  • the distance for which the rangefinder can be operated is about from 2.7 yards to infinity. For distances below 2.7 yards ~  2.5 meters, the focusing is operated by mean of the focusing scale or the ground-glass screen.

What we think :

Compare to others Large Format 4"x5" camera, the MPP range offers great portability as the camera can be hand used without any difficulty. After all most of them were used as Press Cameras, "records of aircraft and vehicle crashes, police records, fashion".

They offer a very decent range of movements for serious landscape, studio or architectural photography.

Film holder FAQ: can I use this particular MPP Make VI model with a more widely available modern International film holder, like Fidelity, Toyo and so on?

According to the MPP Users Club : "For the Model Mk VI with Serial numbers over 6000, the register is 4.85 - 4.90, and therefore the use of International standard Film holders is permitted. For meticulous work, it would be safe to stop the lens's aperture down."
